This is a unique geological phenomenon known as Danxia landform. These phenomena can be observed in several places in China. This example is located in Zhangye, Province of Gansu. The color is the result of an accumulation for millions of years of red sandstone and other rocks.

Becoming Vegan

April10

Meatless Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday! People become vegan for their own very personal reasons. At this time, I admit that I am not vegan, but when I see videos or articles such as the one below I wonder why not. This video discusses five good reasons to go vegan. I think it comes down to three:
* Compassion for living beings – as humans we have the opportunity and the choice to not eat or wear other animals.
* Compassion for the environment – farms that produce animals have a higher environmental impact than farms with plants.
* Compassion for our own bodies – more and more science is proving that a plant based diet is beneficial for health and longevity.

Far be it for me to tell you what you should do – we have to decide for ourselves and I certainly will not judge, but for these reasons I’m eating less meat, dairy, eggs and any other animal based products.

Meditation Illussion

April3

Are the wheels moving?? (for best results – click on the photo and then on the next page click on the photo again – it should show up quite large on your screen – now focus)

In our busy distracted lives calming or stilling the mind each day is a very important daily activity. I came across this Meditation Illusion the other day. When I first opened this the wheels were spinning and as my eyes darted around trying to figure out if they were really spinning they just kept spinning, but then I realized that was just an illusion. If you look at this and just focus on the black dots you will find the wheels stop moving. Now just focus for a bit longer and see how long you can keep the wheels still. Enjoy. Now close your eyes and just focus on your breath. And as a yoga teacher once said to me… focus on the feeling of your breath passing your upper lip – in and out.
